Trek’in Tor - Following the Giants' footsteps

The thrill to participate in one of the most famous and toughest trail running competitions in the world, the natural beauty of the Aosta valley, the majesty of the mountains, the pleasure of sharing a part of the fatigue with the athletes: these are the ingredients that will accompany us in Trek’in Tor – on the heels of the “Giants”, the daily trek that takes place at the same time as Tor des Geants.

On the first day we will meet the athletes, still fresh, lively and smiling, in the vallone di Youla, between Courmayeur and La Thuile, our arrival destination

On the second day we will be in Valsavarenche and we’ll climb towards Col Entrlor, one of the highest mountain passes that the athletes have to reach. The valley is a magical place, in the Gran Paradiso National Park, where, apart from the athletes it’s possible to meet up with marmots, eagles and chamois.

On the third we will be on the boundary of the Aosta valley and almost at the half way point of the competition: the athletes that arrive at Refugio Coda know only too well that they still have a long way to go, but at the same time that they have already done many kilometers!

On the forth day we leave from Gressoney to reach Col Pinter, another spectacular pass of the race. The climb is hard, but we’ll have enough breath to cheer the competitors on towards another height after already climbing many others!

The fifth day takes us to Valtournenche, towards Rifugio Barmasse and further.  The warm welcome in the refuge is another ingredient that will transform our excursion into a unique experience. Once here, we’ll take advantage of the opportunity to have a look at Cignana Lake and its fascinating emerald green colour.

Our sixth day is dedicated to a long excursion, but with only a small difference in altitude. From Saint Rhemy en Bosses we will reach Rifugio Frassati. Here we’ll find athletes with a lost look on their tired faces, but with the knowledge that if they have got this far they have made it! One last pass, the fateful Malatra, and the scent of the finishing line fills the air!

On the seventh day we’ll go to meet the Giants, yes, because whoever we meet on the excursion from Courmayeur to Vallone del Malatra will be a finisher of Tor des Geants, someone in only a few minutes , some other in some hours. And we can conclude our day and adventure accompanying the last competitor to the finishing line, because he too merits a hearty applause!
