Lunch with snowshoes

Winter is a beautiful season in the Gran Paradiso national park where, thanks to the snow, everything is hidden and secret.
Knowledge of the area makes walking along the old tracks of the park possible, and without too much effort.

Since ancient times, long canals called Ru, have been dug all over the Aosta valley to transport water over long distances from rivers or waterfalls to provide irrigation for fields and meadows. These Ru have been revalued and after being tidied up, given way to very pleasant walks. Their particular characteristic is to have only a slight slope making it possible to walk on level ground in the mountains!
Our “Ciaspolata” will be along the Grand Ru of Val di Rhemes as far as the Entrelor waterfall, and then descend towards one of the most enchanted places in the Park. Hidden among Larch and Pine trees is a fresh water spring that continually serves the tiny crystal-clear lake Pellaud. It’s here that Giuseppe, manager of Les Refuges restaurant, is waiting to offer us a well-earned typical Val d’Aosta lunch. Les Refuges is an old mountain hut refurbished with care with a fire always lit and its typical wooden furnishing that makes is warm and welcoming.

The walk in the snow will be the perfect occasion to work up an appetite and get to know some of secrets of the National Park that is enchanting in the winter surroundings. With a bit of luck we could see an animal that has chosen not to hibernate, but to survive winter in the open air.

All in all a day full of nature, sport and good food!
